A Procurement Note for Chinese and Indian Women’s Wear Factories: Balancing Efficiency and Cost

As a veteran in the women’s wear supply chain, the differences in collaboration between Chinese and Indian factories are always striking.
These differences are hidden in the details of the production line and even impact a brand’s market competitiveness.
Delivery efficiency is the clearest dividing line.
Leading factories like Sai Creations in India, with an annual production capacity of 3.5 million pieces, require a 60-day delivery cycle. Meanwhile, factories in China’s Yangtze River Delta, leveraging their industrial chain clusters, can complete orders of the same size in 20-30 days.

Underlying this lies a gap in infrastructure—customs clearance at Indian ports often takes over a week, while Chinese factories can deliver fabrics and accessories within 24 hours.
The trade-off between cost and quality is even more intriguing.

India’s labor costs may appear lower, but complex regulations drive up hidden costs:

Women’s wear OEM factories require approval from multiple departments to expand beyond 100 employees, and restrictions on women working night shifts halve daily production capacity.

Although labor costs are rising in China, smart manufacturing is widely adopted. The quality control rework rate at women’s clothing factories in Chenghai, Humen, Guangdong, is only 0.2%, far lower than the 8% rate of their Indian counterparts.

The resilience of the women’s clothing manufacturing supply chain determines the stability of cooperation.

India relies on domestic cotton resources, with natural fabric costs 5% lower, but faces difficulties in accepting fast fashion orders due to high import tariffs on chemical fibers.

China’s comprehensive supply chain, from chemical fibers to accessories, enables rapid response to design iterations, and small custom orders can even receive sample results within 10 days.

Which to choose? For those seeking cultural characteristics and natural materials, the handcraftsmanship of Indian factories is worth considering. However, for those focusing on fast fashion and scale, the efficiency and quality control of Chinese women’s clothing factories remains the best option.
